The Conformist,cinema paradise,life is beautiful,marriage italian Essay
The Conformist, cinema paradise, life is beautiful, marriage italian style - Essay Example In film, fantasy is very much difficult to define since fantasy is both broad enough to include any fictional films that may happen in real life and narrow enough to remove other works that may actually belong to the said genre (Walters 1). At any rate, fantasy is still any form of departure from an individual's reality or every day existence (Walters 1; Fowkes). Bulgarian philosopher, Tzvetan Todorov, says that fantasy films are simply any plot that goes from marvelous to uncanny to fantastic (Walters 9-11). Marvelous refers to the self-containment of the story wherein the viewer would not be questioning the reality of the film. Uncanny would be the ability of the plot to be explained psychologically despite being unreal and fantastic refers to the ability of a character or a viewer to experience hesitation when faced with an impossible situation. This essay focuses on the comparison of Roberto Benigni's Life is Beautiful and Guiseppe Tornatore's Cinema Paradiso under the idea that both films can be considered as fantasy films. In line with this, Todorov's marvelous-to-uncanny-to-fantastic definition would be considered as the backbone of the comparison. Marvelous Basically, when it comes to questioning the reality of the story, Benigni's Life is Beautiful is quite difficult to ask. ... If one would think about it, how is it possible for anyone not to notice the stranger child on the table? Since these children are actually sons and daughters of important people in Germany, it would of course be obvious that they have dined together for more than one occasion. This would mean that they were actually familiar with one another. However, Guido's son still passed as one of them. Apparently, the story-telling and the idea of the film seem to be flawless making the viewers not question the events in the film. Therefore, by Todorov's definition, Benigni's Life is Beautiful has passed the first stage of a fantasy filmââ¬âit is marvelous. On the other hand, Tornatore's Cinema Paradiso, is also quite similar to Benigni's film. Basically, in Cinema Paradiso, events such as the scene where the movie-house burned down may have left one thinking a to how such small fire glare in the entire room. Realistically, of course, movie films are known to catch fire very fast, making t he scene of real-standards. However, going back to the scene, the only movie film in the room was the one playing. It caught fire probably due to the overheating of the equipment. But, how it spread out would be a matter of question seeing that it did not actually touch anything that may cause the flames to emblazon. But, unlike Benigni's story-telling, this scene in Torante's film could easily be looked over since it is hidden by facts, making this film also marvelous. Comparing the two films under such definition, however, Torante's would be more marvelous compared to Benigni's. This is because, Torante's ability to tell the story is quite more convincing since the marvel of the audience would not be left hanging compared to Benigni's. In this sense, since Benigni's

Hitler's Rise to Power Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Hitler's Rise to Power - Research Paper Example This loss of focus also made him lose the support of other students, who always elected him in leadership positions and to compensate this, he formed a tendency of creating friendship with younger pupils, whom he could command and influence (Kershaw 18). However, his time in school was limited as he managed to convince his mother at the age of fifteen to quit school instead of repeating, after which he moved to Vienna, at the age of 18, to pursue his career interest, which was in artistic work with the money he had received as his fatherââ¬â¢s pension, who had died in 1903 when Hitler was 13 years old (Hant 16). This ended up frustrating him as no institution was ready and willing to receive him owing to the fact that he had no academic certificates to prove that he had completed secondary education. Despite being an Austrian, Hitler disliked his country of birth to the extent of refusing to enroll into the military service, which was compulsory for every youth and according to re ports, it took the authorities close to 4 years to track him so he can fulfill his obligations but by then, his poor health could not meet the minimum standards required to join the military. During his early life, Hitler had shown a lot of admiration for Germany and indeed, he held his history teacher, who was a German, and the then German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, with high regard and as some of his role models (Hant 20). The start of the First World War opened a new opportunity for Hitler to enter Germany, his country of choice, after he made a choice to join and fight for the German army instead of the Austro-Hungarian forces, which he despised. This also gave him the chance to prove his worthiness as a fearless fighter, especially in his position as a dispatch-runner, which was one of the most dangerous positions as it involved acquiring and delivering messages from the command center to the forces on the frontline and which earned him the Iron cross rewards in 1924 and 191 8 (Kershaw 45). According to reports, it is during this time of the war that Hitler began his hatred towards the Jews and Marxists, whom he always described as cowards and a liability to Germanââ¬â¢s quest for victory. However, in 1918 just before Germany conceded defeat, Hitler suffered injuries in a mustard gas attack orchestrated by the British forces after which he was hospitalized in a German military hospital. With the war gone, Hitler suffered from severe cases of depression whereby it is reported that he spent most of his time crying, mostly because he could not accept the fact that Germany had lost the war. In addition, he had no academic papers to help him acquire formal employment and this meant that his future in Germany hanged in the balance and this was definitely more than he could bear (Kershaw 56). As stated earlier, Hitler was an outspoken person and he always made it clear that he was a strong proponent of anti-Semitism, anticommunism and Pan-Germanism (Toland 37). In addition to this, he never believed or subscribed to the school of thought that everyone was equal and as such, he was against any group or organization, which was trying to promote socialism. These qualities attracted the attention of German leaders, who shared the same opinions and they gave

Strategy Used By Samsung And Hyundai Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Strategy Used By Samsung And Hyundai - Essay Example Samsung Inc. developed a new video which involved football superstars using Samsung devices and equipment to train themselves for defeating a group of alien rivals. In this campaign, Samsung promoted the Galaxy S5 which is in its introduction phase of the product life cycle (Shayon, 2014; Prezi Inc., 2014). The effort made by Samsung to promote Galaxy S5 is considered as the first of its kind wherein FIFA World Cup 2014 had been taken as a theme and the top players were used to attract customers through social channels. This particular campaign as witnessed has been successful in making a huge impact in the global market which has been quite beneficial for Samsungââ¬â¢s Galaxy S5 in its introductory phase. This is the stage when a particular commodity is newly familiarized in the market which requires certain marketing support. Advertising is used as a marketing tool to create awareness among consumers about the product in order to alleviate its brand image (Soltani, 2012; Trehan & Trehan, 2011). Similarly, Hyundai with the use of hashtag ââ¬Ë#BecauseFutbolââ¬â¢ promoted its brand along with products to the football fans worldwide. Hyundai, the automobile company, is in its growth phase of product life cycle which effectively used the ââ¬ËTumblr-powered micrositeââ¬â¢ to promote its brand in the global market. This is the stage when there is a steady rise in the sales curve of the company along with market growth.

The Character Henry in John Berrymans The Dream Songs :: Dream Songs
The Character Henry in John Berryman's The Dream Songs The question that continuously puzzled me as I read through the poems was, "Who is Henry?". He is the main character in John Berryman's The Dream Songs, yet he is very mysterious. He is likely to show up in almost every poem in the book. Analyzing this character is confusing because he is mentioned so many times and in so many different contexts that it is hard to decipher exactly who he is, however it is possible that even the author is not exactly sure who he is. Berryman introduces Henry into the poems in a subjective manner as just a character in his poems. I think Berryman wanted to write about himself, but it would have felt too personal and revealing for him to openly talk about himself. He, therefore, starts out naming this man Henry and mentions him randomly. He says in poem 4, "There ought to be a law against Henry" (Berryman 6), which to the reader does not make a whole lot of sense and veers away from any emphasis on the author. The correlation between Henry and the author is not very apparent until later. In poem number 13 Berryman describes Henry. Berryman goes into detail as he explains, "So may be Henry was a human being...He is a human American man. That's true...God's Henry's enemy" (Berryman 15). It is uncanny how closely these lines resemble Berryman's own life. Berryman was obviously a human being, but he was also an American man, who lived a life that most would call grievous. He was so unhappy with life at one point that he tried to commit suicide, unfortunately something his father succeeded at when Berryman was younger. His complicated life could explain why he may feel that God is his enemy. This is where Berryman sort of lets go and starts sharing his own feelings and experiences, but still uses the name Henry to protect himself from the judgment of others. College And Sleeping :: essays research papers
à à à à à Are you curious if those all night cram study hours are working? I bet your wondering if they are actually helping or hurting your midterm grade? Iââ¬â¢m sure all of us have spent an all nighter studying for that Chemistry or Economics exam that you just have to do well on because its 50 percent of your grade. Not only are you studying so hard for that A+, but your mental well-being. We all feel pressured to do well in college for many reasons. For that high paying job were promised if we graduate from a top-notch school or what about the assumption that you will have a better future. And for those of you whose parents are paying thousands of dollars for tuition, wouldnââ¬â¢t want to let mom or dad down. The answer is here. June J. Pilcher conducted a study of whether sleep deprivation affects your ability of acing that test if you just would have went to bed earlier. à à à à à June J. Pilcher published an article ââ¬Å"How sleep Deprivation Affects Psychological Variables Related to College Students Cognitive Performance,â⬠in the Journal of American College Health on November of 1997. à à à à à Voluntary sleep deprivation is a common occurrence for many collge students, who often partially deprive themselves of sleep during the week and compensate by increasing their sleep time over the weekend. This pattern of sleep deprivation and rebound becomes more pronounced around examination periods, sometimes resulting in 24 to 48 hours of sleep deprivation. By depriving themselves of sleep, college students are not only increasing their feelings of sleepiness during the day, thus decreasing their ability to pay attention in class, but are also negatively affecting their ability to perform on exams. à à à à à The effect of sleep deprivation on psychological variable associated with performance, such as self-reported estimates of attention, effort, and performance, have not been thoroughly investigated. Few studies have examined perceived effort and performance, and the results from those studies have often been contradictory. For example, some researchers have suggested that sleep deprivation may affect the willingness of the individual to put forth the effort to perform well on a task more than the actual ability of the individual to perform. à à à à à By contrast, other researchers have concluded that people may realize a decrease in performance levels following sleep deprivation and attempt to overcome this by increasing their effort . However other studies have shown that a perceived increase in effort does not appear to overcome the harmful effects of sleep deprivation.
