Plastic surgery is a medical specialty concerned with the correction or restoration of form and function of a body part. There are a lot of arguments concerning plastic surgery. Some people even argued that it should be banned. However, the fact that plastic surgery is still legally practiced globally points out that the advantages significantly outweigh the disadvantages. Plastic surgery should not be banned due to the following reasons. Firstly, plastic surgery is needed for medical purposes. Secondly, every human has the rights to choose what they want to do, as long as it is not against the law. Thirdly, plastic surgery often leads to success. Metaphorically speaking, we often associate the terms language andgrammar with the term music. This association leads us to believe that music is a form oflanguage, possibly because no sym bol system other than language has the same potentialas music of infinite productivity and precision. It takes a multitude of directions andphonetic-type symbolism to produce a pleasant sounding musical composition. This relatesvery closely to the requirements of everyday language. The primary objective of anyspoken language is to convey a persons thoughts in a comprehensible fashion, but wemust remember that everyone thinks and comprehends everything differently. Musicallanguage contains vast quantities of words to help people understand how originalcomposers intended to play a specific piece. Musical language also has directions thatallow and encourage some scope of original interpretation and minor departures from thewritten score, resulting in no two performances sounding exactly alike. The Englishlanguage, as we know it, carries a very strong parallel to these same interpretable words. Dialect and slang are just two of the many connotative forms to speak different languages. All languages contain these variations and reinforce the need for striving towardunderstanding a basically generic language. It would be very difficult to speak to anon-English speaking person and clearly convey a message unless both persons werefamiliar with basic terminology. It would be just as unlikely to communicate a musicalmessage to someone not educated or interested in musical interpretation. The term musicin itself has many different connotations. One in the United States may not have the sameperceptions as one whose origin is France or Australia, or elsewhere in the world. In mytravels through Europe and South America I had a hard time finding any truly original,locally produced music. The majority of the music I searched through were also popular inthe United States. It was very easy to find foreigners singing an American song using theirinterpretation of our language. The entire world seems to be able to communicate withmusic and seems to understand it enough to share th eir own musical interpretation. Musicis a language of its own and depending on how we speak it, it too can accomplish amultitude of results. People are no more able to understand a foreign language withouteducation than they are to understand the unspoken language of music without propermusical education. A single score of music interpreted with a few of many availablemusical directions can tell as many stories as there are variations. For example, playingCristoforis Dream by David Lanz entirely lento-pianisimo (slow and very soft), creates avery peaceful and tranquil mood. Played again allegro-forte (lively, brisk, and loud), emitsan uplifting feeling. Yet, by using both interpretations progressively and regressivelywithin this identical musical score, one could feel depleted and elated in the sametimeframe. This is perhaps the most ascribable reason to pursue a knowledge of musicalsemantics. Within music one expresses many emotions, speaks many languages, conveyscomplex messages, and ! tells many stories. Music can be a selfish form of conversationand it is not always necessary to have a recipient to convey a message. Douglas, Tubman and other writers and intellectuals were the inspiration of those who were in bondage to aspire for freedom and new i dentity as freed men and women. But aside from eloquent speakers and gifted writers, Negro slaves were also inspired by those who were drafted by the Federal Government to fight the Confederate Army. At first it seems that Negro slaves would have to be content to stay at the sidelines and be mere spectators to a war that will determine their destiny as American citizens. But it did not take long before the Union Army decided to recruit them and made them a part of the fighting force that will help liberate their brethren who were still in bondage. Those who were living as free men in the Northern states were conscripted into the army (Donovan Griess, 2002, p.21). But officially the first recruitment of blacks took place in the occupied areas of the South and this was made possible by an act passed in July 1862 (Donovan Griess, 2002, p.21). This is clearly a strategic move as well as a political one. There is need for more troops and what could be a better solution than to use newl y freed slaves in the fight to free others. The recruitment of former Negro slaves into the Union army was a significant event. When they took on the uniform of the North it was the acceptance that they so desired. According to one local newspaper, â€Å"It is an honor understood by our fathers who fount on the plains of Chalmette in 1815 †¦ he who defends his fatherland is the real citizen, and this time we are fighting for the rights of our race† (Tunnell, 1992, p.71). A more excited response was recorded when someone said that, â€Å"From the day that bayonets were placed in the hands of the blacks †¦ the Negro became a citizen of the United States† (Tunnell, 71). But freedom came at a price and no one knew how to deal with the aftermath of the Civil War. Shaping U.S. History According to Ron Eyerman, â€Å"Four million slaves were liberated at the end of the civil war. The exact figure was 3, 953, 696, which represents about 12.6 percent of the total Ame rican population and 32 percent of the Southern population† (2001, p. 23). This is a sizable portion of the population. This figure also means that the whole economic landscape was significantly altered by the event. The South was devastated and crumbled at the onslaught brought upon by Union soldiers (Franklin, 1994, p.2). On the other hand the Negro slaves were freed and the emancipation that they had hoped for had finally arrived. It was supposed to be a story book ending. Freedom loving Union troops attacked the Southern states and liberated scores of Negro slaves. If it was a chapter in world’s best fairy tales book, the last scene would have depicted slaves packing up their belongings and leaving their master’s home for good, never looking back excited to chart their own destiny. But it did not end that way. Everyone was so preoccupied with the idea of freeing the slaves that no one had the time to figure out the consequences of such moves. In the period following the Civil War, in a time known as the Reconstruction, whites and blacks continued to have differing perspectives in the aftermath. The Negro people in the time of Reconstruction were suddenly aware of their rights and yet at the same time fearing that they will never experience the real meaning of freedom. Thus, many of them migrated to the Northern states. On the other hand while the white people in the South grudgingly accepted defeat as well as the political and economic ramifications of that defeat, they also knew very well that the newly freed slaves will remain second class citizens especially in their states. It would require a successful Civil Rights movement and the passage of time before white and blacks can see eye to eye with regards to equality and human rights. One of the first African-American intellectual, George Washington Williams wrote about the sad plight of the newly freed slaves, â€Å"Here were four million human beings without clothing, shelter, homes, and alas most without names. He is the main character in John Berryman's The Dream Songs, yet he is very mysterious. He is likely to show up in almost every poem in the book. Analyzing this character is confusing because he is mentioned so many times and in so many different contexts that it is hard to decipher exactly who he is, however it is possible that even the author is not exactly sure who he is. Berryman introduces Henry into the poems in a subjective manner as just a character in his poems. I think Berryman wanted to write about himself, but it would have felt too personal and revealing for him to openly talk about himself. He, therefore, starts out naming this man Henry and mentions him randomly. He says in poem 4, "There ought to be a law against Henry" (Berryman 6), which to the reader does not make a whole lot of sense and veers away from any emphasis on the author. The correlation between Henry and the author is not very apparent until later. In poem number 13 Berryman describes Henry. Berryman goes into detail as he explains, "So may be Henry was a human being...He is a human American man. That's true...God's Henry's enemy" (Berryman 15).
